Radial glial cells are the primary neural progenitor cells in the developing neocortex. Consecutive asymmetric divisions of individual radial glial progenitor cells produce a number of sister excitatory neurons that migrate along the elongated radial glial fibre, resulting in the formation of ontogenetic columns. Moreover, sister excitatory neurons in ontogenetic columns preferentially develop specific chemical synapses with each other rather than with nearby non-siblings. Although these findings provide crucial insight into the emergence of functional columns in the neocortex, little is known about the basis of this lineage-dependent assembly of excitatory neuron microcircuits at single-cell resolution. Here we show that transient electrical coupling between radially aligned sister excitatory neurons regulates the subsequent formation of specific chemical synapses in the neocortex. Multiple-electrode whole-cell recordings showed that sister excitatory neurons preferentially form strong electrical coupling with each other rather than with adjacent non-sister excitatory neurons during early postnatal stages. This preferential coupling allows selective electrical communication between sister excitatory neurons, promoting their action potential generation and synchronous firing. Interestingly, although this electrical communication largely disappears before the appearance of chemical synapses, blockade of the electrical communication impairs the subsequent formation of specific chemical synapses between sister excitatory neurons in ontogenetic columns. These results suggest a strong link between lineage-dependent transient electrical coupling and the assembly of precise excitatory neuron microcircuits in the neocortex.

1. A system for making real-time predictions about an arc flash event on an electrical system, comprising:

  • a data acquisition component communicatively connected to a sensor configured to acquire real-time data output from the electrical system;
  • an analytics server communicatively connected to the data acquisition component, comprising, a virtual system modeling engine configured to generate predicted data output for the electrical system utilizing a virtual system model of the electrical system, an analytics engine configured to monitor the real-time data output and the predicted data output of the electrical system, the analytics engine further configured to initiate a calibration and synchronization operation to update the virtual system model when a difference between the real-time data output and the predicted data output exceeds a threshold, a decision engine configured to compare the real-time data output against the predicted data output to filter out and interpret indicia of electrical system health and performance; and
  • an arc flash simulation engine configured to utilize the virtual system model to forecast an aspect of the arc flash event; and a client terminal communicatively connected to the analytics server and configured to communicate the forecasted aspect.

Claim 1 of the '608 patent recites:

1. A system for filtering and interpreting real-time sensory data from an electrical system, comprising:

  • a data acquisition component communicatively connected to a sensor configured to acquire real-time data output from the electrical system;
  • a power analytics server communicatively connected to the data acquisition components, comprising, a virtual system modeling engine configured to generate predicted data output for the electrical system utilizing a virtual system model of the electrical system, an analytics engine configured to monitor the real-time data output and the predicted data output of the electrical system, the analytics engine further configured to initiate a calibration and synchronization operation to update the virtual system model when a difference between the real-time data output and the predicted data output exceeds a threshold, and a decision engine configured to compare the real-time data output against the predicted data output to filter out and interpret indicia of electrical system health and performance; and

Metro said Friday that it believes an electrical short between two rail cars was part of the problem that lead to doors unexpectedly opening Tuesday on two rail cars as the train was moving.

On Friday, Metro said the transit agencyas investigation team had replicated the incident in a rail yard and found that there was a amisalignment of the contact head that transfers information between two cars.a That created an electrical short and caused the door to open, Metro officials said. Federal safety officials are investigating some of Montgomery Countyas Ride On buses following fires that have destroyed five of them since 2009.

The manufacturer of new hybrid buses that Metro bought last year is going to repair some of the vehicles because they can develop shorts in their battery systems, transit officials said Wednesday.
